Mabuhay! - Welcome!
to the Home Page of
KAIBIGAN ASSOCIATION
.
The name is "Associazione KAIBIGAN - o.n.l.us.". In Italy the meaning of "O.N.L.U.S." is equivalent of "No Profit Organisation".
The Association is neither politic nor confessional and is located in Treviso - Italy.
Of course it's registered with Agenzia delle Entrate of Treviso and Anagrafe Unica Nazionale of O.N.L.U.S. (con Atto Prot. N. 14506).-
The Association is composed of a few founding members backed by:
- the financial support of hundreds of italians friends;
- and, moreover, many Filipinos friends and collaborators, which are the winning formula for the organization projects.
The first project the Association will undertake is the rebuilding of Dampay Elementary School in the village of Amungan. Our fundraising efforts are currently underway. Our last trip to Amungan village was attended by "KAIBIGAN" Vice President Mario Brun. Mario was able survey, assess and generate an estimate for the cost of repairs. The repair project will be performed in phase with the most urgent of repairs being addresses first. The first phase will be to repair the three existing classrooms devastated by the eruption of the volcano Pinatubo June 1991. Mario estimates total cost to be 12.000 Euro's. The Assiciation members will be in Amungan March-April 2011 to manage and assist with the rebuilding effort.
Zambales Province is a particularly poor area who's inhabitants are fishermen and farm labourers of rice, mango and shugar cane. The end of last summer the terrible typhoon Ketsana - Ondoy created death and destruction in and around Manila devastating the lives of so many. The Kaibigan Association organized and cooperated with Filipinos in Padua and Treviso and began a fundraising effort.
On November 15 2009 the Associazione Kaibigan organized the third charity luncheon held and attended by almost 200 supporters. This event was well publicized by the local newspaper.
In his last trip to Philippines the Vice President Mario Brun of San Pelagio of Treviso, has been half winter by the wife's relatives.
Unfortunately, the local government cut the funds destined to the public institutions, and many teachers are now asking for a financial support for their schools.
On December 13, 2009 the Association KAIBIGAN - onlus helped and supported the manifestation "Little Miss Treviso" about legality and book-keeping. The resultant funds acquired from a lottery that was held will be destined:
- to project Dampay Elementary School and other help enterprises in Philippines and Italy;
- to emergency of Haiti.
In spite of the young age of the Association, it has been able to get a good relation of friendship with the Filipinos of Treviso and other neighboring Provinces. Diplomacy and friendship are the base of the Association articles, which is in accordance with the Italian Rules. There is reciprocal esteem amongst Association KAIBIGAN and the Filippino Associations e Community of Veneto already for the biggest events 2010.

The entrance of the school
The Pesos to continue the construction lack from long time and the grass now starts to sprout from the floor. The Dampay is a public school frequented from who cannot afford the private school.
The part to restructure
It is a school surrounded from houses, the most we would define huts.
(click on pictures to enlarge) The conditions of the Dampay Elementary School immediately look miserable and crumbling. Half construction is without roof and the rest is to rebuild. The state of the scholastic furnishings is precarious. It is ' a school surrounded from houses as this, the greatest part of which we would define huts.
Ceiling of a functioning classroom
All the children, at our arrival, leaned out to see a rare western (that for them is always an American " kano ") greeting " hi Jo ", inherited regard from the 2nd world war when the Americans freed the Country from the japanese invader. Actually every classroom is used for severals matters.
THIS APPENS IN AMUNGAN.
When in Europe it is spring, down there it is dry season, and the sun is very hot. Then, when here the summer begins, in the region the rains of monsoons arrive, and the typhoons transit violently on the territory causing damages to the poor houses. I was witness of destruction of roofs of the village, with women and small children inside the house, with impetuous wind and very strong rain. It is a puzzling thing; a spectacle that we have not accustomed to see. I in these occasions didn't be able to feel indifferent. Unfortunately, also buying some meter of simple wire, for many people represents a sacrifice. When it is drought, and while fortunately we are satiated of Christmas desserts and cakes, in Amungan the rice is more expensive than other periods. The Pesos to buy it are a little, and the mouths are numerous. These are the children of the Dampay El. School. Here It exists a little still child girl (neighbour) that has a probable future to the prostitution.
oOn 2006 we took a decision. We promised to ourself to do something more, after having transmitted this wish of help to colleagues and friends, we decided to regularize our position and to associate us; in this way we could favor fiscally our future donors. During spring 2007 we worked harshly. We founded an association and we enrolled it to the Agency of the Entrances Office of Treviso, getting therefore a Fiscal Code (N.: 94115350269).
We became " association " denominated "KAIBIGAN" ( = "FRIEND". a nonprofit association). - The cost was around 350 Euros! (almost 400 USD). All start from the initiative of a commune people group. Dishonesty, religions and politics don't concern in our programs and in the finalities we drew up and registered. Recently (February 2008), by consulting with the Direction of the school, we esteemed 10 to 15 thousand the necessary Euros for materials and work for 3 classrooms. Now we have the duty to ask a free contribution, starting from the Philippine Community of Treviso, the friends, the ex colleagues, the shopkeepers, the varied firms, the supermarkets. In short... to everybody. We now address our application also to you readers of Blogger, hoping that between your appointments of solidarity you can give us an hand for this unusual project. As ulterior updating to this post, I have to inform that together with my wife, we were in Amungan the whole month of January 2008, for motives for family. This was the occasion to have a more complete photographic documentation inherent the Dampay E. S. and the village of Amungan. We hope to get from whoever, suggestions, help and, possibly, a contribution for the school. We know that there is a natural and justified distrust, but we can serenely say that we are people that dignifiedly live of our pension, without getting improper money from other people. Us first, but also others people, say that the initiative is beautiful and honest. For this, a lot of persons exhort us of not desist and to go ahead without discouraging our self.
The contribution for the school will happen in accord with local authorities and it will be documented by film, photos and papery documentation; undersigned by the varied interest parts.
To guarantee the regular use of the money, we won't entrust other persons for the works to the school, but we'll be personally busy to the acquisition of the necessary material and to the payment of who will carry out the works. Accordingly, they will remain in the village up to completed works. In this way they could document the good result of the donation.
